First of all - always before a trip we prepare the dog's passport. Mandatory examination at the Veterinarian, with the application of preparations for external and internal deworming. In our case, at the beginning of each month we put him on Vectra 3d and Dihelvet. We take his vitamins in the luggage for the daily dose. Then the Veterinarian puts the necessary certifications in the passport.
Another mandatory moment, after we have chosen the destination, is checking whether the place is pet-friendly. What are the rules for walking in the country, finding a hotel/campsite - allowing dogs.
Depending on the type of trip, luggage for the dog is one of the most important things. Over the time that we have been proud owners of Basenji, we have been able to see and test in several trips what we need and what is unnecessary.
Here are the most important components of the luggage for us:
-
tent/cage with attached pillow - we have both, foldable and compact
-
passport
-
medicines - vitamins Green-lipped mussel for joints, for ticks Frontline/Vectra and for internal deworming Milprazon/Dihelvet
-
collapsible bowls for food and water
-
toys
-
leash and leash - if possible, spare ones
-
camping leash - metal rope, covered in rubber, 3-5 m long
-
food - for our convenience, divided into portions
-
salts, bones, rewards, dental products
-
clothes, blanket - Basenjis are African dogs and for cold destinations it is a must
-
car seat - he has a small one, a type of mat, he sleeps in it the whole way in the car
Since we are cycling enthusiasts, we also bought a small rickshaw to ride him in so that the whole family can ride bikes. He is still afraid, but we hope that in time he will get used to it.
We have since given up taking him on long trips, so we are betting on a dog hotel - we use A7 Holiday Home - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100092475474688
