Flight Luggage
Compact, organized, no frills.
I have some observations about my luggage packing habits. I am not a fan of checked luggage, maybe because there are too many articles and comments about lost or misplaced luggage. I always try to travel compactly. I have not felt like I am missing anything, no matter how long my stay is. I rely on the most basic and with the thought that if I forgot something, I can always buy it on the spot.
I often browse Pinterest for interesting luggage packing ideas. There are different methods, tips and ideas there. Inspired by them, I recently bought mini luggage packing bags. Below you can see some of the photos that inspired me.
Documents - I always carry paper copies of all documents - reservations, insurance, passport photos and everything I might need. Of course, I also have them digitally on my phone and in the cloud - a backup copy.
For me, there are two main types of luggage:
-
long stay - Poland with or without a transfer, far-flung final destination, long stay.
-
short stay - low-cost company, short stay.
Long stay - we have 7 or more nights. Similar to us are Japan with or without a transfer. These flights allow cabin luggage plus checked luggage. Cabin luggage is usually a small suitcase and a backpack. I used the method of rolling clothes in a roll for easy visibility and saving space. Overnight stays vary and a good option is to find a hotel/apartment with a laundry room that we use as needed.
In the suitcase I put:
-
a fleece-type outerwear
-
a spare pair of jeans
-
sneakers
-
sandals
-
t-shirts
-
underwear
-
toiletries
-
basic medications
-
special clothes in case of an exotic destination on a connecting flight, such as the situation with Doha, Qatar - the temperatures there would be around 30-40 degrees, but there were special requirements for women - covered shoulders, long pants. I opted for fairy fabrics, light and cool. There was a pool in the hotel - I added a swimsuit.
-
a small document bag - a mandatory element in my opinion - this is where I keep passports, money, and a debit card.
In the backpack - phone, headphones, charger, e-book, external battery, documents, sunglasses, empty water bottle
I usually travel in comfortable clothes, suitable for a long flight - leggings or comfortable jeans, a T-shirt, a sweatshirt, a jacket - depending on the season.
On our return from our second trip to Japan, we had bought large suitcases for gifts and purchases on the spot. We checked luggage for the first time and thank God, it arrived with us intact.
Short-term stay - here I always go for a backpack. I have several types of backpacks and usually go for the most comfortable and size-appropriate one according to the ticket.
Here, the luggage depends on the days of stay and accordingly I put the same amount of clothes:
-
T-shirts
-
underwear
-
documents
-
external battery
-
phone and charger, headphones
-
toiletries, sunglasses
-
basic medications
-
empty water bottle
-
bag for clothes to wash
-
If it's 3-4 days, I don't bring a spare pair of pants. If it's warm, I put shorts on. An option is to buy what I don't need on the spot.
-
Waist bag - documents, debit cards, money.
Again, I opt for comfortable clothing - leggings or comfortable jeans, a t-shirt, a sweatshirt, a jacket - depending on the season.
We always take small things to eat - nuts, energy bars, saltines.
I pack my luggage so that I have some free space for purchases from the trip.
